Vains Of Jenna @ Camden Barfly

Toni and I scooted off to Camden Barfly tonight courtesy of those nice people at Rock Sound to see Vains Of Jenna. We had a bit of banter with DJ Angel in the queue before meeting up with Matt and Becky.

Four bands on show tonight..........

THE MERCY HOUSE
If a German techno thrash band met Bruce Dickinson then this is perhaps what you would get. Loud and brash metal with some great soaring vocals. The Mercy House didn't take themselves too seriously and were having a great time performing and warmed up the crowd well.

FALLING RED
Punky rock n roll. Really energetic sound that got two old punks moshing and pogoing away like there was no tomorrow much to the disgust of anyone who happened to be collided with in the process. Falling Red are an excellent band with some really good songs. I will say however, it is best not to drown your audience in water before asking them for an enthusiastic response! Definitely a band to look out for in future though and I would like to see them again.

THE CRAVE
Stadium rock in a small venue, nein danke! MTV radio friendly pop rock that wouldn't be out of place at a Bon Jovi gig. The songs weren't bad and were well written but it just didn't really fit in with the evening's proceedings. Saying that I can certainly see them going places but it was a thumbs down from us!

VAINS OF JENNA
For me, VAINS OF JENNA got off to bad start with the singer murdering Everybody Loves You When You're Dead but he recovered quickly and his voice settled down and was good for the rest of the show. Great songs, great performance and good crowd interaction.

Two very drunk underage girls were an unwelcome distraction (for us and the band) and the singer should not have encouraged them as he was liable to end up in jail if he wasn't careful. I just hope he avoided them like the plague afterwards! There was a stage invasion at the end that was plain embarrassing with a horde of drunk women trying to dance seductively to the band. FAIL!

Final tip for band members, do NOT dive into the crowd unless you are 100% certain that they will catch you. The singer dived in at the end and went down hard as someone threw him over their head, DOH!

All in all it was a great night with good bands and fun times with friends. WIN!
