Hollywood Doll @ The Workshop

It was gig time again, this time at The Workshop (a nice little venue below The Roadtrip Bar in Old Street). This was another event put on by Adam Keningale of Ask Management (who had done the recent interesting Molton House gig). It was all good tonight though, apart from the rain.

We were immediately drawn to the venue when we saw this sign inside:

MAX HILL
Max Hill was a great way to start things off. He opened with an awesome cover of Madness' It Must Be Love and then delighted us with some of his own songs. It was like listening to a blending of Jack Johnson, José González and Ray LaMontagne. Awesome stuff and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on his output in future.

CRISTINA BEDALE
Cristina Bedale has a very strong and powerful voice, her songs are well crafted but it just wasn't really me. She went down well though which was good for her.

SCARLET MOSS
This was Scarlet Moss' big night. Seems that although we were headlining it was all geared to her. The original event had her headlining and the venue advertisements only had her name mentioned. She even took the time on stage to announce her exciting news that she had been signed up to Adam Keningale's management company so good for her! Musically it was a bit like Sheryl Crow meets Alanis Morissette but without the instant hit factor although I did like Shout Out.

HOLLYWOOD DOLL
Despite changes in bill order and having our set time extended and then cut we managed to rise above it all and put on a kick ass set. So much so that a lot of people actually vacated the venue. This would be a worry other than the fact that we are a rock band didn't really match anything else on the bill (and most people have come to see Scarlet's big night anyway). I think more serious thought will have to be put in before we play any more of these gigs and end up with more appropriate bands on the bill.

As I said, we played a good set. Big thank you to Alex, Becky and Liam for coming down and getting into it and making it all worth while (and to all the anonymous others that bothered to stick around and show us some support).
