Why 'Peacemaker' Is The Best DC TV Show To Date

DC movies have always been quite epic and dark and often lacking humor. Enter James Gunn and The Suicide Squad. James Gunn not only managed to keep the dark and gritty DC feel while injecting a bucket load of humor into the mix. The Suicide Squad was to DC what Guardians of the Galaxy was to Marvel. This writer was very excited when it was announced that James Gunn would be taking on a spin-off television show using the Peacemaker character.

The Reason Why Luke's Lightsaber Changed From Blue To Green In 'Return Of The Jedi'

In A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, lightsabers were presented as either blue or red. Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber had a blue blade, which became associated with the Jedi, as did the one that he gave to Luke Skywalker. Darth Vader, however, had a red lightsaber, which then became forever associated with the Sith. This all changed in Return of the Jedi when Luke Skywalker had built himself a new lightsaber. His new lightsaber broke away from the established color standard that everyone had come to expect as this one was green. However, all of the original posters and promotional material for Return of the Jedi had Luke Skywalker using the traditional blue-bladed lightsaber. Luke Skywalker's blue lightsaber even made it into the trailers. Based on this you can imagine the audience’s surprise when the actual film had Luke Skywalker using a green-bladed lightsaber rather than a blue one.

The Most Brutal On-Screen Lightsaber Death In All Of ‘Star Wars’

There is no denying that Star Wars and lightsabers go hand in hand. The lightsaber quickly becomes one of the most iconic weapons of all time. If you see a glowing blade anywhere these days, there are very few people that would not immediately think of Star Wars. Space wizards with laser swords are what it is all about. Across the Star Wars franchise, we have been treated to many glorious lightsaber fights. The debate still rages on as to which lightsaber fight is the best with each of the three trilogies offering up at least one candidate for the title. There is a lot less talk though about the deaths that were inflicted with a lightsaber and how that is represented in live-action Star Wars movies and television shows.

Anyone with even a passing interest in Star Wars projects will be well aware that the secrecy around them is phenomenal. There are many interviews with cast and crew members where they have shared information on how secrets are maintained and the lengths that Disney/Lucasfilm will go to maintain that secrecy.

Over the years we have gotten to know these creatures and monsters and learn more about them through various layers of media. Back to work

It was back to work today. New year, new job role. Weirdly I didn't really do that much on the new job front as I spent most of my time just dealing with straggling hangover bits from last year. I'll be easing into the new role gently but I am really looking forward to it.

Mild weather walk, baking, Harry Potter reading challenge, Drag Race

I am loving this mild weather that we are having at the moment as it makes my morning walks very pleasant. I did my round today and wished many Happy New Year greetings to familiar dog walking faces before diverting to the Co-op for a few supplies.

When I got home it was time for the weekly roll baking so that Toni has her usual supply.

I then settled in with a cuppa and decided that the first books in my Goodreads.com reading challenge for 2022 would be all of the Harry Potter books, I haven't read them before and decided that it was about time I did. I'm rising above all of the noise about her online and intend to just read the books without undue influence from the internet. You can find me on Goodreads here:

We finished off season two of Canada's Drag Race this afternoon. Compared with the US and UK versions this one always seems a little lacklustre but there were some good moments in it. This one was one of those rate occasions where we didn't actually mind who won as Icesis Clouture, Kendall Gender and Pythia were all very good. Congratulations to Icesis Couture though on getting the win.

My Sunday roast was accompanied by Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, continuing our Wizarding World adventures.

Harry Potter: Return To Hogwarts

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter films reunion special was made called Harry Potter: Return To Hogwarts. Featuring the main cast Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint alongside many other stars from the films this was a very heart warming trip down memory lane for the cast discussing their memories and experiences as part of this beloved movie saga. The show featured interviews with the cast, never-before-seen clips, special guests and a few surprises!

If you are a fan of these movies then this is definitely worth a watch. Here's one of the trailers.

2021 the year that never was (just like 2020)

So here we are on the brink of 2022. 2021 has been weird to say the least (much like 2020 if I am totally honest). The years that time forgot (or at last would like to forget). So many plans and events were cancelled to postponed (and then postponed again) and most of us spent a lot of time at home and not seeing friends and family.

It feels like things are shifting and although the Covid-19 pandemic rages on it feels like things are slowly improving (sort of). I am not counting my chickens though as I suspect things might still take a turn for the worse.

It's not all been bad though as I have really enjoyed the change of pace and I absolutely love being able to spend more time with Toni. We have had some major events with Sam moving out and off to Southend with his mate Dave and Zoë is currently working and probably getting ready to fly the nest too.

2022 could well be another year for change that might see us finally child free on a permanent basis! Maybe!

We had a nice chilled day today. Season 6 of Queer Eye dropped on Netflix so we spent the day watching that.

There was some eating and lots of tea/coffee drinking but no alcohol for us. Just the two of us spending quality time together and feeling very relaxed.

We rolled towards the midnight hour watching The Big Fat Quiz Of The Tear 2021.

I don't really do New Year Revolutions but this one seems good :)

Saying that, maybe we'll skip the partying, drinking, fighting and smoking part..... Broken it already, damn, or maybe this is just resolution lite!

See you on the other side........ new beginnings and all that!

'Rogue One' Director Admits Attending Secret 'Star Wars' Meeting During 'Godzilla' Filming - Culture Slate

In 2016 Star Wars premiered its first standalone movie in the form of Rogue One. Directed by British movie maker Gareth Edwards, Rogue One took the Star Wars universe in a new direction while butting in closely to A New Hope. It was a bold and dark move to create a movie with new characters facing peril through out, culminating with them all dying for the cause by the end.

Why Palpatine Felt Lightsabers Were ‘Beneath’ The Sith - Culture Slate

Most people immediately envisage the iconic red lightsaber when you think of the Sith. We have seen them from the start with Darth Vader in A New Hope, Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace, and Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones. There is even a glimpse of one in The Rise of Skywalker with Dark Side Rey. On the other hand, Palpatine is only seen using a lightsaber in combat once in the all the movies, in Revenge of the Sith.

Why Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm, And Disney Didn't Ruin Your Childhood - Culture Slate

Most people can remember the first time they watched a Star Wars movie. I would imagine that these are childhood memories like mine in many cases. I was eight years old when I first saw Star Wars, and I was addicted from the get-go. I had the toys and the comics, and everything revolved around Star Wars.

‘Star Wars’ Movies vs TV: Which Is Better? - Culture Slate

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... I was going to start by being clever and saying it wasn't long ago. However, Star Wars first burst onto cinema screens in 1977, 45 years ago, so I guess it really was! Everything kicked off with that one movie. I have been a Star Wars fan since I first saw A New Hope in 1978 when it had its mainstream release in the UK (well, it was just Star Wars back then) and have been swimming in movies and TV content ever since. It's not necessarily all been a good thing, though. So which is better, the movies or TV content?

Theory: How Did Padme Really Die? - Culture Slate

Medical droid (about Padmé): Medically, she's completely healthy. For reasons we can't explain, we are losing her.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: She's dying?

Medical droid: We don't know why. She has lost the will to live.

These words were the inevitable build up to Padme Amidala’s expected death in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. No other explanation was given in the film for her death. Over the years there has been much speculation as to whether it was as simple as that or if there was something else at play?
