Child free day and finishing Sherlock

It's been a bit of a novelty this weekend as we've been child free since yesterday. Sam went to Germany for a friends wedding and Zoe is staying with a friend and it's quite nice.

Don't get me wrong, we do love having them here but sometimes that short break is amazing. We can do what we want, whenever we want and go where we want without having to factor them into the plans.

This morning we went into Eltham and had breakfast at Delicio before heading back home with a plan to nothing but just chill out.

We decided to burn through the rest of Sherlock to the very end. My goodness, this show just got better and better with intricate stories interweaved around each other. It was quite emotional getting to the very end and realising that there are no more episodes planned for the foreseeable future. I really hope they do make more in the not too distant future.

In other news it has just been revealed that Patrick Stewart is going to reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard in a NEW Star Trek TV series! This was unexpected but great news. I can't wait to see what they do with this.

The day finished off with a couple of episodes from Season 2 of Luke Cage accompanied by a video message from a slightly pickled Sam who was having a great time enjoying Weissbier!

Extra sleep, Richard's, American Gods and The Defenders

Getting up at 10am seems awfully self indulgent but it was nice to get some extra sleep! We were too lazy to sort breakfast so we went out and made a trip to Richard's. It's been a long time since we have been there and he was delighted to see us. I'm glad it's not just around the corner any more as we went there far too much but it was nice to go there for a treat today.

Although there are things we needed to do we decided to invoke lazy mode and take it easy today. Last night we started watching American Gods (yes I know we are late to that party but we were binging Bones) and we managed to burn through five episodes. As we'd enjoyed it so much we decided to finish the last three episodes.

This was a brilliant series, some great visuals, acting and a pretty off the wall story arc.

We then moved on to The Defenders which has just dropped on Netflix. I loved Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage (Iron First was OK) so I was looking forward to seeing how all four were brought together to form The Defenders.

It started well setting the scene with all four characters in New York doing their stuff. There were lots of interesting crossover interactions as things start to converge which meant that each episode didn't focus too much on one character. I'm still not completely sold on our Iron Fist but he is slightly more tolerable than in the standalone series. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Daredevil still remain the stronger more believable characters but they all work well in a team.

The Defenders was a good series and we burned through all eight episodes in one hit. For me it was totally worth doing it just to get to the end for a big reveal....... we all know that Marvel loves to stick things after the credits and The Defenders was no exception......

I was delighted when Frank Castle was introduced as a cameo in the Daredevil TV series and that portrayal was much closer to what I would want to see in The Punisher. It was even better when it was announced that The Punisher would be getting his own series at some point. Due to hit Netflix in November this trailer (shown at the end of The Defenders) sets a gritty dark scene for where things are likely to go. I can't wait!

Luke Cage marathon

Following on from Jessica Jones yesterday we finished our Luke Cage marathon tonight. Another excellent series from Marvel that paves the way for The Defenders.

Once again we have crossovers, this time with both Daredevil and Jessica Jones which makes the whole thing gel together nicely with that little bit of familiarity.

Check it out if you haven't already:

Jessica Jones marathon

Today was labelled Jessica Jones day as Toni and I started blitzing through the season (so that we can avoid any more spoilers that might pop up in Luke Cage). This is another excellent Marvel TV show put together with Netflix.

I love the airtime that some of the lesser known Marvel characters are getting in TV shows with them all leading to crossovers. Jessica Jones gives our first introduction to Luke Cage who now has his own show too. Next year all this will link up for the Defenders series that is coming.

This is definitely one to check out if you are interested in lesser know Marvel characters and things running at a slightly slower pace than your standard superhero fare. Ideally it is best to watch this series before starting Luke Cage.

It was a great way to chill out on a Sunday to keep nice and relaxed and ready for the impending working week ;)

Gotham, Lego Star Wars and Luke Cage

It was a bit of a novelty today with Toni going over to see Jade and Aaron and do cooking with them and me left to my own devices.

I kicked things off with a catch up of the first two episodes of Gotham season three. This show has really come into it's own and season three has started very strong with one of my favourite DC characters (Poison Ivy) finally starting to take shape!

Next on my agenda was a long session on LEGO Star Wars. I've not played it for a while so it was good to get back into the swing of things and make lots of progress.

Once Toni had returned we then started to check out Marvel's newly launched Luke Cage TV series that has just hit Netflix. We watched the first two episodes and were really impressed with it. Definitely one to check out of you like yourself some Marvel.

S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Flash finales plus Luke Cage

Tonight we watch the season finales for both Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Flash. Both finished strongly and leave things nice and open for the subsequent season plots. Both Marvel and DC have done well with these shows building them up and making them better as time goes on.

I am now getting really excited for Marvel's next series on Netflix, Luke Cage. This show is scheduled to commence on September 30th.

When a sabotaged experiment gives him super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive attempting to rebuild his life in Harlem, and must soon confront his past and fight a battle for the heart of his city. The old criminal turns crime fighter plot line returns but it should be good! The Luke Cage series will eventually lead into a crossover show called The Defenders which will also feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist.
