A walk in Oxleas Woods

Today we were at one with nature as we had a lovely walk through Oxleas Woods. So nice to get away from the real world and soak up some nature for a while.

New Avengers Endgame trailer is out!

The final trailer for Avengers Endgame has now dropped and it's one hell of a ride! There's also a very nice poster too!

It's still six weeks away but I am now getting really excited for April 26th! Check out the latest trailer here:

American Gods

American Gods is back for Season 2. The first season was really good so we are very glad that the next instalment is here. We started off with the excellent recap episode which was comprehensive enough to jog the old memory.

The first episode was really good and had us crying out for more. There is none of that 'drop the whole season at once' stuff going on here so we have to hang in there for after a weekly cliffhanger until we get to see more.

Little Miss Busy

It was a busy day for a Saturday. It was productive too so I don't mind it when weekends go like that.

We started off with Toni, Sam and I picking up Jade and Aaron and heading to Miggi's for breakfast. After a bit of food shopping we dropped off the strangers and headed home. Once there it was no rest for the wicked as we loaded up the car with a load of black sacks from the garage and headed to the dump to dispose of them. This is part of our plan to make the garage more functional this year.

Once back from the dump we then decided to defrost the freezer in the kitchen so we decanted all the food down to the garage to start that process. It was long overdue as the amount of ice build up was causing the whole thing to malfunction and the fridge section was also turning into a freezer.

It felt good to do little things that will improve our lives going forwards.

Relaxing time was spent doing a little TV catch up and moving one step closer to finally completing all my DLC for Spider-Man on the PS4.

Captain Marvel

It was off to Bexleyheath tonight for nommy foods and to see Captain Marvel.

What a film, this is what Wonder Woman should have been. A strong female character with no need to throw in a love interest. Well-played Marvel. The fan service was great with some more back story being added to Nick Fury and it was great to see Agent Coulson back in a film again. Captain Marvel is the perfect setup to Avengers: Endgame so stay right until the end!!!

The soundtrack gets an honourable mention too with key 90s hits blending in perfectly to what's happening on screen.

Marvel hit the spot once again!

Uncomfortable situations and family making things better

Sometimes being a manager brings about situations that are not comfortable. Today was one of those days. It sucked, it REALLY sucked!

Thankfully getting home improved my day. Family, lovely food and a couple of episodes of The Final Table plus a catch up with The Flash made everything alright.

The Final Table

We started watching a new cooking show (in the absence of Hell's Kitchen) called The Final Table. Teams of chefs vie to impress some of the world's toughest palates as they whip up iconic dishes from different nations in this reality cooking competition. So far we've done Mexico, Spain and the UK. It's always bizarre to see people lose a challenge based on the cuisine of their own country and then other nail it!

If you like culinary completion shows then this is well worth watching

Detour day and then crash

It was a productive day today with lots of things getting done and other things being planned. Sadly it was spoiled by transport letting me down meaning that Sam and I had to make some major detours to get back home.

We got home and I had two bowls of chicken curry and then crashed out by 20:30!

Lords Of Chaos

Today we watched Lords Of Chaos. I watched it in two parts over the weekend with Toni and I stopping at one scene where we weren't sure what would happen next. I watched the second part alone and determined that there was nothing there that would have caused distress to Toni hence watching it in it's entirety today.

As a film it was very enjoyable although very uncomfortable to watch in places due to the subject matter and it being based on truth (and lies). For me it was a shame that we didn't really get a feel for all the main musical players in the Norwegian black metal scene but given the history it is understandable why a lot of the bands didn't want to be included.

Having now done more research it looks like Lords Of Chaos (the film) was inspired by Lords Of Chaos (the book) written by Didrik Søderlind and Michael Moynihan which is about as close to 'truth' as you could get. The band Mayhem were not consulted nor wanted any part in the film and denied use of their music, the authors of the book have stated that although one of them had access to the script at one point he didn't recognise the characters being presented. Varg Vikernes has been very outspoken about how it has been made, despite not seeing it himself.

I guess the real truth is that we will never know the truth of this story. It has been retold by different people so many times that ascertaining the facts would prove difficult. I know lots of people who have seen that are sympathetic towards Euronymous and direct anger towards Varg but looking I'm not sure it's as black/white as that. For me I think their relationship fell apart when it became clear that Varg was taking action whereas Euronymous only talked about it and tried to take credit as the inspiration for these things. Add that to political differences and the powder keg that is being in a band with other people and a large amount of money owed and you can maybe see Varg finally went over the edge. I'm conflicted and frustrated that the more I look into this the more I realise I can never get a definitive truth.

Warhammer Underworlds and Midnight Texas

Today Sam and I took some time out and retreated to the garage to have a first play through of Warhammer Underworlds. Sam had picked up the new Night Vault set and was keen to give it a go.

It's a nice simple game that is easy to learn and quick to play. Whilst I am happy to submerge myself in the Age Of Sigmar and 40K worlds full of stats sometimes it's nice to be able to play something without having to think too much.

In an unexpected turn of events I emerged victorious!

It's a game I would recommend if you want something quick and easy set in the familiarity of the Warhammer Age Of Sigmar world.

The rest of our day was spent watching the last three episodes of  Midnight, Texas Season Two. It's a great show that I hope gets picked up by another network as it is currently facing cancellation which would be a real shame!

Things coming together

Today started well as I listened to a lot of Rammstein on my way to work. The working day was also good. Little fragments are starting to come together which could form some great improvements, if there is a trailing wind at least.

The day finished at a reasonable time with no fires extinguish and everybody getting on well so that was a result. Rammstein accompanied me on my journey home so all was good.

Relaxing time with Toni rounded things out nicely. Sam messaged to say he was popping in to a leaving do on his way back from Amsterdam and that he wouldn't be late. As it turned out we went to bed before he got back and neither of us heard him arrive.
