The morning started with dropping Gemima at school and then going to have a hearty breakfast at the Royal Standard (Blackheath) before hitting the road for the LONG drive to Whitby.
The journey was fairly uneventful and with only one minor navigational hiccup, we arrived in Whitby 8 hours later (including a 30 minute coffee and loo break).
We checked into our lovely B&B (Sandpiper House), reported our arrival to various interested parties and then chilled out for a while. Four poster bed YAY!
It was just possible to see the ruins of Whitby Abbey from the bedroom window:
Following our chill out session we then decided to wander around the gorgeous town and get our bearings ready for the events over the next few days. We ended up at the sea by the pier.
It was amazing how quiet the place was but I guess that may well change by tomorrow and the weekend although we did notice an abnormally high number of goths wandering around the place LMFAO.
Next stop was a quick walk up far too many steep steps (it was like Tower 42 all over again) to see the ruins of Whitby Abbey. We plan to visit when it is open in the daytime but here's a few taster pics:
Careful, the wind will change!
After our little jaunt up the hill and back again we were totally starving so went in search of food. Not being ones to shy away from local delicacies we decided to be adventurous and found a nice Indian restaurant as that was one of the few that was actually open! Suitably stuffed we then took a leisurely stroll back to the B&B to freshen up and hit the sack ready for a our first real day as Whitby Goth Weekend virgins!
