Hollywood Doll @ Molton House

It's Showtime!
This show always had "interesting/disaster" tagged to it!
For me it definitely fell into the "interesting" category. It was certainly the sort of venue that I never imagined Hollywood Doll every player:

We arrived and set everything up and watched the Silhouette Showgirls sound check (and get increasingly frustrated as their amps had to be turned down and the singer couldn't hear anything in the monitors).

Our sound check wasn't much better. Can you imagine three 100W+ amps all being run on a volume setting of less than one? It was incredible. Steve was hidden behind an acoustic shield that looked like four plastic riot shields stuck together. We ran through one number and things didn't sound too bad given the low volume we were playing at.

One sound check later and it was time for the show to being.

BEESON & WHITE
I really enjoyed these guys. Two acoustics and a country feel. Nice and relaxing and some amazing songs. The best bit though was a song that reminded me of Shame For The Angels by Nikki Sudden & Dave Kusworth.

HOLLYWOOD DOLL
Well this was a first. Our 30 minute set had to be whittled down to under 25 minutes! The gig went well though, we had great playing and the few people that were there seemed to be enjoying themselves. We had deliberately removed Burn You from the set due to the look of the venue but we then got a grumble from Adam, the promoter, as he loved the song and had wanted to hear it, typical!

THE FUZZ
Once we were done we were approached by The Fuzz who had only managed to reach the venue half way through our set. Cheeky beggars had the cheek to ask to borrow all our amps and Steve's snare and cymbals. We weren't happy but we reluctantly agreed on the proviso that they didn't change any settings. Turns out the drummer hadn't even brought drums sticks with him and one of the guitarists even needed a lead! Totally outrageous and then we saw them twiddling the settings which left us highly unamused! To make matters worse the played jazz funk which I am not a big fan of LOL.

THE SILHOUETTE SHOWGIRLS
........ we didn't actually get to see them, read on............

After The Fuzz were done we dived to the "stage" area and grabbed all our gear. We were just sorting out what to take out to the cars when the manager asked us if we could move it so we replied that we were about to. A few seconds later Adam came up to us and said that the manager had asked us to move our gear. As we started taking stuff out we left, Nicola, Marie and Becky to watch over the gear. The Silhouette Showgirls hit the stage while we were loading out gear and thanked their fans who had travelled 3 hours to see them pay for 20 minutes. Becky said that she overheard the manager/head bouncer say that they were only allowed to play for 10. We didn't actually get to see any of their set as more bouncers appeared around Nicola, Becky and Marie who were trying to get them to leave so in they end they just grabbed everything and walked out. It turned out the bouncers had even tried to throw out the singer of the Silhouette Showgirls who had just popped to the loo before going on stage. It transpired that they got to play for ten minutes before the power was cut on them!

Overall it was a fun gig but the treatment of the artists at the end of the night by the management of Molton House was absolutely disgusting. I hope Adam finds somewhere else to put on his nights as he deserved better than that.

So there you have it:
We came, we played, we got kicked out! RESULT!

There was one small victory though:
