It was birthday gig night tonight as a group of us went to Islington Assembly Hall to see the Turisas and Korpiklaani double headline tour. The gang was, Sam, Aaron, Callum and Dan with Toni and Zoe being sadly absent. We missed Trollfest but the rest of the night was great.
First up were Turisas providing their brand of Battle Metal. To be honest they were the main reason I wanted to come to this as they've always impressed me whenever I've seen them before. Tonight was no exception. As the set ended I was gutted that they hadn't played my favourite song only for them to come out and do it acoustically for the encore!

The Turisas setlist was:
As Torches Rise
A Portage to the Unknown
We Ride Together
To Holmgard and Beyond
Battle Metal
Hunting Pirates
Five Hundred and One
Stand Up and Fight
Rasputin (Boney M. cover)
Encore:
The March of the Varangian Guard (Acoustic)
For Your Own Good (Acoustic)
Korpiklaani put on a fine show but it felt most of the time that they were playing second fiddle to the fine set that Turisas had just played. Until the end that is, final song was Wooden Pints followed by an encore of Beer Beer (with Trollfest) and then Vodka. The place went nuts for those three songs and at that Korpiklaani stole the show, just!

The Korpiklaani setlist was:

Korpikuusen kyynel
Aallon Alla
A Man With a Plan
Juomamaa
Kallon malja
Pellervoinen
Harmaja
Kotikonnut
Sillanrakentaja
Kuin korpi nukkuva
Lempo
Pilli on pajusta tehty
You Looked Into My Eyes
Wooden Pintsv
Encore:
Beer Beer (with TrollfesT) (Øl Øl version)
Vodka
It was a great night out with friends and family and the bands were great making it a very memorable event.
