Samhain is here again

It's the most wonderful time, of the year! No I'm not insane, I just happen to really like Samhain :)

...and I am not talking about the band here either (despite the picture) but the festival.

Toni and I were off to Giselle's tonight for a Samhain social gathering. There was food, non-alcoholic drink, chat and much hilarity.... and snakes. We had a great time.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launch trailer

If you are bored of Star Wars posts already then you might want to stay away from my blog until 2020 as there are going to be lots of posts... EA have just released the launch trailed for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, their latest game in the Star Wars universe.

I am really looking forward to some single player action on the PS4 rather than the frustrating multiplayer madness that was Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront 2

The galaxy awaits as Cal Kestis embarks upon an epic journey in hopes of rebuilding the Jedi Order. Fight for your survival, explore the mysteries of a long-extinct civilization, and become a Jedi on November 15. STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order is a third-person action-adventure game from Respawn Entertainment. Available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC on November 15, 2019. Pre-order now: http://x.ea.com/61034

New The Mandalorian images and trailer

Disney have just released some gorgeous new promo pictures for their Disney+ Star Wars TV show The Mandalorian.

November 12th is fast approaching and I can't wait to see what this show has to offer. Disney also released a brand new trailer.

I'm really excited to see what they do with this. A lot of money has been spent on making it so I hope it lives up to the hype. Preview feedback has been positive so far so I have a good feeling about it.

Playstation nostalgia and changed plans

Turned on the PS4 for the first time in a while today. Downloaded the remake of the PSOne classic Medievil. I used to love playing this game when I was much younger (well 28)!

The good news is that this game is still great fun. It runs at a nice steady pace and the graphics are gorgeous. If you liked the original you should definitely check this out.

Lots of laundry was done and I baked another load of bread for Toni before we headed out to Eltham to have some dinner before we travelled to London. The plan had been to go and see this:

When we got to the station everything was borked. The Eltham and Elmstead Woods lines were already subject to replacement bus services so we had decided on New Eltham. Turns out that after we'd left for dinner there was a serious problem at Hither Green that meant al trains were cancelled or severely delayed. Unfortunately this meant that there was no way we could to London to attend. We were both totally gutted.

Instead we returned home, put the kettle on and settled down for an evening watching ice hockey. There are worse ways to spend a Sunday night even if it wasn't what we had planned.

Absolutely knackered

Following the madness of a my really long day yesterday I had to get up earlier than usual to make sure I was in the office to cover any issues following the migration. I was shattered and a lot of coffee was consumed. I had planned to leave work early but various things conspired against me and that didn't happen.

When I did finally get home I crawled into bed in a desperate attempt to get some sleep. I tossed and turned for a while before I did finally crash out. Sadly there was a rude awakening as Zoe phone me to ask me to turn the oven on to heat up dinner. This was one of those instantly wide awake moments that makes you feel sick. When Toni got home with Zoe she said that I looked really rough. She wasn't wrong LOL

I had dinner, ended up having to a little bit of extra work to cover the late shift before I finally gave in and hit the pit for some much needed shut eye.

It's been a really, really long day.....

It's been a really, really long day today ......

Did my usual hours but ended up managing and troubleshooting a migration that was starting to go off of the rails. I'd never had a migration get stopped and backed out and I was going to start now. It was hard work but just after 01:15 AM everything was good with the world. I went to bed at 01:30 AM.

Jedi: Fallen Order coming next month

Fresh off of the release of the trailer for The Rise Of Skywalker, the whole Star Wars marketing machine has kicked into overdrive. EA have been pushing their upcoming game Jedi: Fallen Order.

The game is due out on 15th November and I am very much looking forward to it. I play Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront 2 occasionally but I am not a multiplayer fan when the games are Call Of Duty style. Battlefront 2 did at least have a solo mission but that was very short so I am really excited to see EA actually develop a game that is focussed on the single player and solo missions. It's a game and it's Star Wars and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Here's some of the game play:

The Rise Of Skywalker tickets secured and new images released

So the trailer is out and tickets are now on sale. I have secured ours for our traditional spot at Cineworld in Bexleyheath for the midnight showing on Thursday 19th December as well as a more civilised 4pm showing at Eltham Vue the same day!

I am absolutely shattered today as I woke up 03:15, watched the trailer a few times and was then so excited that I couldn't get back to sleep at all. I was very sluggish when I got out of bed to get ready for work. This was a coffee day for sure.

Disney have just released some gorgeous images following the release of the trailer.

The big kid feels are strong with this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The final Rise Of Skywalker trailer is here

Well here it is folks. The final Rise Of Skywalker trailer is here.

Oh wow is all I have to say to that. A small tear might have shed at the end.

The Rise Of Skywalker trailer teaser

It has now been 100% confirmed that the final trailer for the The Rise Of Skywalker will drop on Monday night during Monday Night Football on EPSN in the US.

Lucasfilm have released a teaser for it....

It might only be seven seconds long but it still made me go oooooh! Can't wait to see the whole thing. Tickets are supposed to be going on sale on Monday too.

In other The Rise Of Skywalker news, AMC in the US have announced a Star Wars Marathon that will show all 8 of the current Star Wars Trilogy films leading into the release of Episode IX. The whole event lasts for 27 HR 21 MIN. Here's the blurb from their site:
On Wednesday, December 18, ahead of it’s official opening on December 20, fans can be among the first to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker by attending Star Wars Marathon. Experience all nine Star Wars saga films in one epic day. Fans will receive a commemorative pin and blanket, and a concession offer. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will start at 5pm local time, one hour earlier than regular public show times.
That's some serious time in the cinema. I'd certainly give it a shot if they staged an even like that here in the UK!

Time to say goodbye to my birthplace

It wasn't that long ago that I made a post about my birthplace being in flames. That wasn't the first time and there have been many attempts to burn down RAF Hospital Wegberg. As a result of years of neglect and these arson attacks it seems it is now time for the demolition squad to move in.

This is what it used to look like

I'd always planned to go and visit the place but it looks like time might be running out. It's a shame but makes sense as it is now a health and safety risk not mention the drain on resources of both the Polizei and  Feuerwehr with break ins and the aforementioned arson.

This is what it looks like now:

Sad times :(

New The Rise Of Skywalker image

Entertainment Weekly has just released an image giving us a new look at Keri Russell's new character, Zorri Bliss, in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker.

What is that in her hands? We need answers and NOW!!!!!!!!!

Russell has previously revealed her character is an old friend of Poe Dameron’s (Oscar Isaac).
“She has a little bit of a checkered past and maybe some questionable morals, but she’s really an old friend of Poe’s. I think the entrance of Zorri is there to describe more of who he was, y’know, in a very intimate way and a familiar way, and the friends are sort of like, ‘What do you mean, you know him?'”
Isaac added that the situation is “complicated” and Zorri is neither First Order nor Resistance.

The latest rumour is that we can hopefully expect to see a new/final trailer for The Rise Of Skywalker on Monday 21st October. With a bit of luck tickets will go on sale not long after that.

Dungeons & Daddies (not a BDSM podcast)

Sam has recommended a podcast to me called Dungeons & Daddies (not a BDSM podcast).

Dungeons and Daddies (not a BDSM podcast) is a D&D podcast about four dads from our world flung into the Forgotten Realms in a quest to rescue their lost sons. They drive a minivan, and exude powerful dad energy.

Normally I don't listen to podcasts that are long because I just don't have the time to listen to them all in one go and I hate breaking things up. I decided to give this one a go to see what all the fuss was about. It is up to episode 19 and I wasn't prepared to do a 18 hour catch so decided to dive straight in at 19. It's quite amusing and I can see why Sam enjoys it. There were a few things that made me chuckle out loud. If you are into D&D or any other role playing game then you will get a lot out of this.

I'd definitely recommend it if you can invest the time. I'll see how I get on with the next couple of episodes to see if I can finally regular listen to a podcast that is 60 minutes long.

A near miss... three cheers for decent people!

The journey home tonight was a near miss. On the train home (which was on a go slow) my guts decided to go into overdrive. By the time the train arrived at Eltham I was a bit like this:

I gingerly made my way to the toilets. I got to the Gents, closed due to vandalism. I got to the Disabled toilet, closed due to flooding. I got to the Ladies, closed after 15:30 due to short staff! Things were not looking good. Sam asked if I could make it home in an Uber. Not a chance without a terrible accident. We made our way to the ticket office.

There was one person in front of me who was just asking question upon question and things were looking dire as I could feel the gurgling in my stomach getting worse. I approached the office and asked if there was any chance a toilet could be opened as I was in a bad way. The lady on duty pulled down her blind and told me to head back to the toilets.

When she appeared she told me that she had to get another member of staff from the platform before she could do anything, I nearly cried. In what felt like the longest few minutes ever she reappeared and unlocked the Ladies for me.

A few seconds longer and disaster would have struck but thankfully I made it just in time. That was really close.

I couldn't thank her enough when I came out. Just as well she was no jobsworth who might have denied my request especially as the Ladies was the only working set of toilets. Three cheers for decent people!

Extinction Rebellion @ Bank and St Paul's today

Extinction Rebellion were out in London today having their protests in the financial districts around Bank Station and St Paul's. Despite what the media tries to portray about the ER group it was all very civil. They were handing out leaflets and actually apologising for the disruption.

The protest procession walking down from St Paul's to Bank was impressive. It looks like a scene from a David Bowie video.

Personally I am impressed that people still case enough about things to actually take to the streets and try and do something about it. This is a copy of the flyer they were giving out:

Joker

Went to see Joker today after having lots of friends recommending it.

No spoilers here but that film was DARK! This is not your run of the mill comic book film by any measure. It was emotional to watch but boy did Joaquin Phoenix turn in one hell of a performance. I used to think nobody would ever be able to top Heath Ledger's fantastic portrayal of the classic Batman villain but Phoenix ran away with this one (knocked it out of the park as the Americans would say). It must have taken a lot of work to take on this role and sell it so convincingly. Phoenix most certainly deserves an Oscar for this performance. Joker is well written, has good pace, the visuals and soundtrack all fit so well together This one definitely puts DC back on the movie map where in the past they have always come up short.

Check out the trailer, check out the film!

Eternal Journey: The Egyptian Book of the Dead

Tonight Toni and I met up for dinner and then headed out to Highgate Cemetery to watch Dr Anne Garrett give a talk on The Egyptian Book Of The Dead as part of London Month Of The Dead.

We turned up at the chapel and enjoyed a Hendricks Gin treat.

The venue was beautiful

The talk itself was fascinating, very information for me as a newcomer to the subject matter. It could have been a bit longer but we really enjoyed it.
