New York Rangers make the Play Offs (just)

We'll skip that boring work stuff today. The boiler is still broken!

Highlight of the day was watching New York Rangers versus Carolina Hurricanes. Having blown their chance to clinch a Play Off spot on Tuesday night the Rangers were left with two games to get the job done. Nothing but a win would be enough. They kicked things off by coming out all guns blazing and ended the first period with a 2 - 0 lead. This was exactly what I had wanted to see. Sadly the wheels fell off at that point as the Hurricanes turned things around and finished the second period at 2 - 2. It didn't get any better in the third period as the Hurricanes continued to dominate and took a 3 - 2 lead. With a mere 02:57 left on the clock the Rangers finally managed to score again and the third period ended tied 3 - 3 and into overtime went.

Given how well the Hurricanes had been playing in a nothing game I was pretty worried and they didn't let up in overtime either. Fortunately at 02:55 Rangers captain Ryan Callahan got the job done with a great goal. There was much rejoicing at this point! At least the final game of the regular season against New Jersey Devils on Saturday won't have to be a critical one. The only difference this game will make will be who the Ranger end up facing in the first Play Off games.

Talk about making it hard work. Hopefully the Rangers will learn from their recent games (and some fairly bad mistakes) and pull things together so that they actually have a chance in the Play Offs. At the moment I am not convinced that they'll get very far although I am more than happy to be proved wrong!

Let's Go Rangers!
