Tonight was a night for watching WWE Summerslam. **SPOILER ALERT** Please aver your eyes now if you are unaware of any of the results..... you have been warned!
We've pretty much given up on watching RAW these days. There is just to much naff filler and far too many flashbacks to things that happened only moments earlier. Even when we do watch it it is usually on fast forward. It is shocking to think that a product that we once loved has now fallen completely flat. It's not game over yet but they need to start improving their show drastically!
The one thing that keeps us going is the Pay Per View shows which thankfully are usually not too bad. Watching Summerslam was interesting as we had not seen most of the build up to these matches.
Big thumbs up to the Sting segment. It got me all excited to think that there could be hope for him to have at least one match in the WWE before he retires.
The Miz v Dolp Ziggler for the Intercontinental Title. I've been a Ziggler fan since he first appeared in the WWE so I was behind him all the way. He'd been given a massive push a while back and then was allowed to fall away so I hoped this would start his rise again. It was a reasonable match and I am pleased to say that Ziggler did indeed defeat The Miz to become the Intercontinental Champion again. Hopefully he will be scheduled to have a decent run with it and make it a title that means something once more.
Paige v AJ Lee for the Divas Title. Divas matches are usually pretty dire affairs due to the fact that most of them are picked for their looks rather than wrestling ability. Thankfully this match was not too bad. AJ doesn't have that much talent but she managed to put in a reasonable effort. Thankfully she was defeated by Paige who then became the Divas Champion again.
Rusev v Jack Swagger in a Flag Match. This was all pretty pointless to me, this whole USA v Russia thing should be left back in the 80s but hey ho, it is what it is. This wasn't really a wrestling spectacular, just two blokes lamping each other with the odd hold thrown in. Thankfully it didn't last too long and Rusev raised the Russian flag as the winner. Don't even get me started on how they've made this man become "Russian"!!!!
Dean Ambrose v Seth Rollins. This was a good grudge match that should have gone on longer. The storyline for this has been well built up and I have a feeling that the WWE will be running with it for a while longer. The pair work well together and it was a good match. The only downside was Seth Rollins beating Ambrose.
Stephanie McMahon v Brie Bella. Another Divas match that had a good storyline. The wrestling was OK but the storyline gained weight as Stephanie McMahon got the win with a pedigree after Brie's twin sister Nikki betrayed her. Brie v Nikki will make some good matches in the future.
Roman Reigns v Randy Orton. This was a surprisingly good match. I'm not a fan of Orton and I can see why Reigns is getting a big push at the moment but he isn't that great a wrestler. Orton pulled out all the stops but Reigns secured his biggest win to date and defeated Orton with a high spear. Can't help think of Edge when I see this move though!
...and so we came to the finale. The spectacular. Brock Lesnar v John Cena for the World Heavyweight Title. Cena was the fans favourite what with him being the face of the WWE and 15 time world champion but personally I cannot stand him. I wanted Lesnar to win. Lesnar didn't just win, he DESTROYED John Cena. I'm not Lesnar's #1 fan but I was happy, VERY HAPPY! It made a very pleasant for Cena not to come back at the very last minute and grab the win. I hope they let Lesnar hold the title for a while and at least get some decent defences in.
Overall Summerslam was a great PPV and has restored some of my faith in the WWE. I would never have predicted three title changes in one night so it was good for the fans and good for the fresh blood taking the titles! Who knows, we might even start watching RAW again, MEBBE!
