Rian Johnson's new Star Wars Trilogy gets the green light?

There seems to be a lot of uncertainty at the House Of Mouse as to the future of Star Wars movies. This year sees the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga and they've been investing a lot in their TV shows. Benioff and Weiss had been tipped to make a trilogy of movies based around The Old Republic with Rian Johnson also signed up to do another trilogy in as yet unspecified era.

People were more excited about the Benioff and Weiss trilogy than Rian Johnson's due to perception of The Last Jedi. Personally I thought there was room for both although I was more worried about what Benioff and Weiss would do given how they rushed the final season of Game Of Thrones. I really enjoyed The Last Jedi so was excited about what Rian Johnson would be able to achieve with a 'blank canvas'. There were lots of rumours (or perhaps just malicious hopes) that Johnson's trilogy had been dumped by Disney/Lucasfilm. In the meantime Benioff and Weiss have now quit their Star Wars project (insert joke about not being able to work without source material) in favour of mega bucks from Netflix to produce a new series there.

In all the chaos everyone assumed that Disney/Lucasfilm were now cool on Star Wars movies and that we wouldn't get any more for a long time. Comments of Star Wars fatigue etc etc. This seemed off as they were still investing in their TV shows within the Star Wars universe.

So bringing things right up to date Disney have now revealed their release through to 2023. There is the usual raft of Marvel films but also we have one Star Wars one scheduled for December 2022. There is no official announcement as yet but it is believed that this could now be the first of the Rian Johnson trilogy of movies. Watch this space........
