Venice Day 3

I could so get used to having aircon in the bedroom. It makes hot nights completely bearable. Scratch that, make it enjoyable :o)

Another fine breakfast set us up for the day then we headed off to Giardini to buy our vaperetto tickets. Vaperettos are water buses.

We then did a full ride up the Grand Canal to Piazza el Roma which was as far as we could physically go. The trip was stunning with so many beautiful building lining the way.

We then did a short hop back to and had a coffee and a wander about trough the maze of streets and squares. We took lunch in a small restaurant and enjoyed a sublime pizza. Lots of photos were taken in St Mark's Square but I was disappointed that the Bridge Of Sighs was mainly obscured by hoarding. We managed to do a lot of walking in some rather fierce heat.

We then vaporetto'd back to the ship and spent the rest of the afternoon chilling, reading and paddling in the pool.

We had an early dinner and then got dressed up as we headed out on the only excursion that we paid for. We took the vaporetto to St Toma and then walked to the house of a Venetian aristocrat whose family had been here for over 700 years. A brief tour of some of the sumptuous rooms, and a nice drink, was followed by a medley of opera and classical music provided by a piano, violin, and tenor and a soprano. It was a sublime experience being entertained in such plush, yet intimate, surroundings.

Another drink and some chat from the owner and then it was time to head back to the ship where we had a night cap before hitting the cabin.
