Relax, mow, eat and L.A. Kings win Western Conference Finals

It was a nice relaxing day today. Got up, had bacon for breakfast and chilled out. The only effort for the day was mowing the lawn which was no hardship at all. I then spent lots of hours sailing the seven seas playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag. After a lot of perseverance I managed to complete all the Nassau missions. It took some doing but I stuck with it.

Pam wanted to go out for dinner so we popped round the corner to Rishta. Wasn't the best of trips as they didn't get my meal right. They did correct things and all was OK but I do regret being adventurous and trying something new. I'll spare the details but when we got home both Toni and I had stomachs that weren't our friends.

More Assassin's Creed killed the time as we counted down to the final hockey game before the Stanley Cup finals. This time it was game seven in the Western Conference Finals. It was tied 3 - 3 in the Chicago Blackhawks v L.A. Kings series with the winner facing the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals. It was quiet for the first five minutes until Chicago broke the deadlock and went ahead 1 - 0. A soft penalty call against L.A. and Chicago convert the power play to take an early 2 - 0 lead.  With 03:29 left in the first L.A. get on the scoreboard and make it a 2 - 1 game. The goal was reviewed but was declared a good one. At 02:38 L.A. scored again and it was a tied 2 - 2 game. 12 seconds later and Chicago bang another one in and it's 3 - 2 in their favour. First period ended with Chicago leading 3 - 2 which was kind of nuts. Shots on goal were 7 - 11 in favour of L.A.

It was end to end at the start of the second period with both teams keen to carry on scoring. Chicago looked to be the more dangerous of the two teams having at least managed four shots on goal in the first six minutes while L.A. had managed none. At 10:31 L.A. had a practically empty net for Toffoli to tie the game up 3 - 3. L.A. managed to fight off a 5 on 3 penalty kill and then fail to convert a power play. Both teams were putting on the pressure but neither could get the go ahead goal. Chicago went on the power play again and manged to make the game 4 - 3 after L.A. netminder Quick dropped his stick.  Second period ended with Chicago leading 4 - 3. Shots on goal were 16 - 4 in favour of Chicago (23 - 15 overall).

Third period started with a lot of pressure from Chicago with L.A. struggling to get shots on goal. With ten minutes gone Chicago were still leading 4 - 3. Chicago had been defending really well. With 07:17 the stakes were raised as L.A. tied things up 4 - 4 meaning the pressure was now on both teams to get the job done in regular time. Both teams had their chances. It was still tied 4 - 4 with one minute left to play and it wasn't for want of either team trying to score. Quick made a fantastic save with six seconds left denying Chicago and easy victory.  Third period ended tied 4 - 4 and so we headed into overtime. Not what I needed on a school night! Shots on goal were 13 - 14 in favour of L.A. (36 -  29 overall in favour of Chicago).

Overtime commenced and both teams were going for it. Both netminders were kept busy. This was end to end but both teams were starting to show signs of fatigue. With 05:47 gone Toffoli made it 4 - 5 and the L.A. Kings won the Western Conference Finals. This is also means that they will be facing New York Rangers on Wednesday as we start a potential seven games for the Stanley Cup!
