Relaxing day, El Bandito, Attack Of The Clones and Rangers fall to Kings in double overtime

We had planned on going to a wedding today but unfortunately had to bow out due to a lack of granny sitter. It was, however, a nice day to relax, and relax we did. Didn't get up until eleven which was wonderful. We had a spot of breakfast and watched David Icke Live At Oxford Union. The guy might seem like a total nutter but a lot of the things he talked about in this show made sense and have actual come to pass (or are in the process of happening) almost ten years later. Sam wasn't too impressed but Toni and I enjoyed it.

The afternoon was spent busy doing nothing. I had a support call with Apple which was frustrating but enlightening at the same time. Net result was that I couldn't do what I wanted to but they did at least offer me a decent workaround which I was happy with. This is one of the reasons why I like Apple, great support.

Food today was courtesy of El Bandito. CHICKEN AND RIBS, that is all (well it wasn't the only thing we ate but we did have CHICKEN AND RIBS!!!!!!)

Pam had a great time reading the cocktail menu. It really made her chuckle and smile:

....although I really can't see what she found amusing about this little lot, can you???

Continuing the Star Wars theme from yesterday we watched Episode II: Attack Of The Clones (sans Bored Lucas and his commentary!!!!). With the exception of Hayden Christiansen's wooden acting this one makes up for the sins of The Phantom Menace. We have lots of Count Dooku, Jango & Boba Fett, clones and Padme coming into her own not to mention the all important sending of Jar Jar Binks to the back benches.

After the Star Wars awesomeness it was time to settle down for game two of the Stanley Cup Finals. New York Rangers were trailing 1 - 0 to the L.A. Kings in the series and this was a chance to even things up.

There was a reasonable start to the first period with Rick Nash getting a shot on Quick that was saved. Lots of good effort from the Rangers in the first five minutes. Lundqvist made a couple of good saves. Luck was on the Rangers side with a fluffed break away from the Kings which could have been fatal. Rangers power play got the job done at 10:48 as Ryan McDonagh made it 1 - 0. With 02:20 Lundqvist just gloves a fast puck out of the air! With 01:14 remaining the Rangers go 2 - 0 up as Mats Zuccarello beats Quick and becomes the first Norwegian to score in a Stanley Cup final. First period ended with the Rangers leading 2 - 0. Shots on goal were 10 - 9 in favour of the Rangers.

Rangers continued the pressure as the second period began clearly not wanting a repeat of game one. Unfortunately a lapse in defence at 18:14 meant that the Kings scored and we were looking at a 2 - 1 game. A failed Rangers power play was then followed by a bit of end to end action. Another goaltender interference penalty saw the Rangers back on the penalty kill. Lundqvist was focused though and and the Kings couldn't score. Rangers went back on the power play after the Kings were called for too many men and Martin St. Louis gives the Rangers the 3 - 1 edge. Then the Kings were back on the power play again! This time they convert with 05:21 left on the power play and the Kings bring it back to 3 - 2. Rangers snap the 2 goal lead back again 11 seconds later as Derick Brassard makes it 4 - 2. Now this is the team I wanted to turn up for this game! Second period ended with the Rangers leading 4 - 2. Shots on goal for the period were 12 -11 in favour of the Rangers (22 - 20 overall in favour of the Rangers).

Third period started with Rangers not repeating game one, getting a shot on goal early. Once again the refs miss a goaltender interference penalty and the Kings score to make it a 4 - 3 game #bullshit. Pressure was on from the Kings and then another scramble for the Rangers defence results in the Kings tying the game 4 - 4 at 07:36. Rangers looked seriously rattled after this and seemed to be struggling. There was far too much offence from the Kings. With 4:05 left to play in the third the game was still tied 4 - 4. Third period ended 4 - 4 and once again the Rangers cough up a two goal lead and head into overtime! Shots on goal were 7 - 12 in favour of the Kings (29 - 32 overall in favour of the Kings). I'm shouting at the TV and get all excited here!

It's squeaky bum time as the first overtime period begins! Ten minutes in and no goals although the Rangers hit the post once. It was end to end stuff. Kings go on the power play after a Ranger high stick. With 37 seconds left it becomes 4 on 4. The Rangers then have a short time on the power play but struggle to do anything with it. Finally a goalie interference call gets made in the Rangers favour! Thankfully the Kings fucked up a short handed opportunity! Ninety seconds left and we are still deadlocked! A great attempt by the Rangers is killed off by Quick with 24 seconds left. First overtime ended with a 4 - 4 tie. So it's into second overtime! Shots on goal were 8 - 6 in favour of the Rangers (37 - 38 in favour of the Kings overall).

...and so it begins, second overtime. Five minutes in and my nerves are going. This is so tense! Someone on Twitter commented, "Goal now = oxygen!". Ten minutes gone and nothing. Refs don't give a delay of the game penalty against the Kings. Replays seem to indicate it should have been. With 09:34 left the Kings score and make it 4 - 5. Shots on goal were 1 - 6 in favour of the Kings (38 - 44 in favour of the Kings overall). Kings now lead the series 2 - 0.
