We drove, we encountered rain. We stopped at some services for breakfast and some sleep. We drove again and encountered more rain. In car entertainment was provided by Finntroll, Korpiklaani and The Dolmen. We made good time getting there (even with the stop off) and the weather was nice when we arrived. We pulled up at the venue and made our way across the specially constructed scaffold bridge to get to the field that we were camping in. The river was beautiful with some fast flowing water:
We had the bell tent up in no time and it wasn't long before it was looking amazing.
One of our neighbours was a friendly sea faring chap from Hampshire who was careful not to get sun burn:
Steve Booth and Charlie Penfold had a bit of a wrestling match!
The opening ceremony was amazing and the Dolmen Grove Essex Moot were very honoured to have been allowed to participate in the ritual.
After the ritual when the Beltane fire was burning bright it was time to socialize and drink!
As the evening progresses we moved from the main camp fire to a smaller group nearer our tent. Steve Booth came up with a novel way to try and avoid the mosquitos
There was more fire and then it was time for bed
It was a fantastic first day!
