New boiler day (part 1)

Today was a historic day in the long continuing saga of our boiler, it was replacement day. Things started off in true saga style though with a panic phone call from the Letting Agency asking if we were in or not as they'd had a call from the landlady saying that the engineer had called and nobody was answering. I said that nobody had knocked or phoned and I was sitting in the office overlooking the drive. A short while later he called me back to say that the job sheet had been messed up and the engineer was outside the wrong house (right road, wrong number)!

The engineer arrived not long afterwards and things got underway. To say it was smooth from hereon in would be a lie. The old electricity spur problem reared its ugly head again and I spent a couple of hours without electicity (which is not fun when you are trying to work from home). Turned out that not all the parts needed were supplied either so the engineer had to go and source extra things. On top of that the electrician was booked and is supposed to come on the same day but called to say that he wouldn't be able to come until tomorrow. Nothing is simple eh?

He said that jobs usually finish about 18:00 but was it OK if he stayed late. We said that was fine as we just wanted it all done. The test was run on the new boiler and all the radiators went VERY hot which was a good sign. The engineer then said that he would have to come back tomorrow as he had just broken his drill bit trying to put an extra hole through to the outside for some of the final plumbing!

Oh well, I knew it was too good to be true. Despite nothing ever being easy with the boilers in this house we do at least have decent hot water now. On the downside I had to put in extra hours to make up for the blackout times and we have to get up really early tomorrow as the engineer is coming back at 07:00 so that he can finished off before he gets any other jobs and before the electrician arrives....

...almost there!
