Yes it's hockey season again and so we face the next six months lacking in sleep! It will be worth it though. New York Rangers first game of the season was against defending Stanley Cup champions Chicago Blackhawks. After a lengthy opening ceremony celebrating their Cup win it was game on!
Rangers took a 1- 0 lead at 01:38 with Oscar Lindberg getting his first ever NHL goal! The Blackhawks even things up at 14:24. Kevin Klein extended the Rangers lead to 2 - 1 at 16:38 and then Derek Stepan left the Blackhawks stunned as he made it 3 - 1 at 19:01. First period ended with the Rangers leading 3 - 1. Shots on goal were NYR 11 and CHI 12.
It was a slow period for the Rangers with the Blackhawks narrowing things to 3 - 2 at 06:55. Second period ended with the Rangers leading 3 - 2. Shots on goal were NYR 9 (20) and CHI 8 (20).
Third period was frantic at the end with the Blackhawks desperate to even thing up and force overtime. They almost got there but thankfully the whistle was blew the play dead before the puck crossed the line. A review from Toronto kept things a no goal. Third period ended with the Rangers winning 3 - 2. Shots on goal were NYR 7 (27) and CHI 14 (34).
It was great to have hockey back. It was great to see the Rangers start things off with a win.
