Tarja Turunen @ O2 Academy Islington

It's been a while since I've been to a "proper" rock gig. Sam and I met up after work, grabbed something to eat and then headed to the O2 Academy in Islington to see Tarja Turunen. We must be turning into old farts as we nearly aborted the mission to go home instead but decided against it!

After a long queue and wait to get into the venue we then an additional wait in a packed venue for the support band. We had to suffer Rage Against The Machine for the whole of this period, grrrrr. It was a great relied when the support band hit the stage.

ELYOSE
French symphonic metal band ELYOSE hit the UK for the first time ever tonight. Singer Justine DaaƩ was so humbled to be here, she was almost over awed by the amazing reception the crowd gave. The band were good and certainly got us back into the mood. Justine's vocals were powerful although I think nerves might have held her back a bit. Well worth checking out. Sadly my phiotos weren't great due to us standing a long way back

TARJA TURUNEN
Wow is all I have to say. This was an amazing gig. Tarja's voice was just astonishing and the sound was so well balanced. All the greatest hits, lots of noise and crowd interaction. There was a wonderful instrumental part with guitar, cello and drum solos, most impressive! We were so glad that we didn't go home as it was definitely worth all the standing around.

My favourite song I Walk Alone (sorry about the hands, again it was down to where we were standing):

A brilliant night was had
